Ophelia, the most famous painting by John Everett Millais and based on Shakespeare's play Hamlet. Millais shows an Ophelia still floating, moments before her sodden dress pulls her down. The plateau depicts the surface with the reflection of the sky and ripples in the water. The dark bottom of the river is represented by the foot.
